Walk in Connecticut and the University of Bridgeport

It is lovely to walk in Connecticut and today as we visited  the University of Bridgeport , we could also visit the sea which is in its backyard. The weather was beautiful and it was so nice to know that one could take a walk at eleven during the day time. The streets, the beaches were as usual empty and one could enjoy the quiet, the serenity and the calmness of the sea. I keep thinking that unlike in India, where we need to go to the mountains, the Himalayas to get some peace and quiet, which is again very difficult to find, unless one travels in the not so touristic spots, here  one can meditate at each and every place. There is so much quiet, serenity, beauty, clean and green nature all around you that one does feel like sitting and just being with oneself.

Back to the History class

I had done a course on American History, especially the American revolution, the fight against slavery and Civil War in 1976,at Allahabad University. That time this was a story on paper but today, I relived that period in Boston with the Boston Freedom trail. The first thing that stuck me is how nicely countries in the West(I had a similar experience in London, France, Netherland, Belgium) market their history and why we in India with such an ancient past are not able to market our history to tourists. The freedom trail is about four kilometers and it is marked with a red brick path and one can travel through Bus or on Foot with a guide or just wander on one's own. We preferred the guide and Mr. John our guide was dressed in the Clothes of that era and as he took us to  sixteen spots, he made history come alive with his story telling, wit, humour, pulling our pictures and maps of that period  from his bag. He took us to the oldest park set up in 1688,he introduced the figures of the revolution men like John Adams, Hancock, John Revere, Benjamin Franklin, George Washington. We saw the tea bricks that were  thrown in the harbour for Boston tea party. We saw the place where the Red Coats massacred the Locals and finally also saw the Balcony from where the Declaration of Independence was read for the first time on 18th July, 1776 and continues to be read till the present times, ever year  on July 4th.An amazing experience to see history from close quarters.Though a lot of new buildings and apartments have come over at the old structures and yet the way the History of the revolution was marketed to the tourists and to see  how interesting it was made, was a fantastic experience.

Time square in the Centre of New York

On 27th May, 2018, went to the Time square in the Centre of New York,. This place really gives the city the title of a city that never sleeps. At eleven at night this was teeming with people, the huge neon lights, the huge bill boards gave this a charm of its own and a wonderful experience not to be forgotten easily.

Bhabi and Devar

I love this picture of Bhabi and Devar, my daughter in law, Pande Nidhi and her brother in law and my  younger son Varun Pande. Their smiles are matching  and they have a very good bond and my daughter in law really  takes care of him by over feeding him when ever he visits Maryland and   and also packing Indian food on his return, back to his home in Connecticut. Unlike my other two sons who are very quiet and loners and  given choice would rather  enjoy their own company,  Varun is the opposite. Picture courtesy Suresh Pande.

One world Trade centre

On 26th May, 2018, we went to a  visit to the, One world Trade centre. First we visited the Memorial site. Avery touching tribute is paid to those who lost their lives in the 9/11 tragedy. A  beautiful park surrounds the foundation of the earlier twin towers of the World Trade Centre. There  are names of all those  people, who lost their lives inscribed and I could read a lot of Indian names. Few people had placed small flags and flowers in the names of some of these names. A very touching moment indeed.
