St. Anns College

In between the heavy rains in Hyderabad and the whole city being thrown out of gear, I managed to chair a session of the National Virtual Conference organised by the Centre for Women's Studies, St Ann's College in collaboration with the National Commission for Women. Though I had streams of water gushing all around my house, I was able to sit through this session and listen to six young scholars from different Universities present their papers on the impact of Covid 19 on the migrant women. It was interesting to listen to Kalpana from Krishna deva Raya University, Sunita Rani from Jamia Milia, Atik from Kalburgi, Mallikarjuna from Gulburga University, Vindhya from the Indian Institute of food and technology and a young scholar Mrudula from St. Ann's itself, present different aspects of this issue from food, to health, to harassesment to violence to difficulties of travel and transportation. Thanks St Ann's for inviting me to this Conference. Congratulations for pulling this off inspite  of the fact that Hyderabad has been battered by rains and life is topsy turvy for most people. Thanks Smita and Popy for doing a good job and carrying the flag and agenda of the Centre for Women's studies forward.

Deepawali celebration , 2022

A wonderful Deepawali celebration with my elder son Sankalp and my daughter in law,Nidhi in Odenton,Maryland on 23rd and 24th September, 2022. It was real fun to have a party with few American families and children who had never tasted Indian vegetarian food and really enjoyed it and found it very different. Missed the Deepawali celebration in Hyderabad this year but was happy to see the pictures of this celebration and decorations back home by my son Tarun and daughter in law Geetakshi.

Paris in 2022

The first glimpse of any city is beautiful. This is my third visit to Paris.First in 2004,then in 2013 and now in 2022.However, this time since I was coming from the US, Paris looked comparatively dry. There was very less greenery in comparison to Connecticut and other places in the US. May be I will have to travel in the outskirts to see some greenery. It really pleased my heart to see that even our airports at Delhi and Hyderabad looked much better and ahead of Paris airport. As our taxi moved to the downtown hotel, buildings with a familiar kind of architecture were seen in plenty. In 2013, we had stayed in Paris for more than ten days and the other two months were spent some 150 miles away in the University of Arras. It was very difficult to get Indian food in Arras but here in Paris there was no issue. The familiar sight of people sitting out on a Sunday morning having their breakfast in the sun outside the restaurant was very nostalgic. French people are very fond of going to a restaurant or Cafe. One may sit inside at the bar (au bar) or outside ( en terrasse). One can spend hours talking to friends sipping wine or drinking Coffee and eating tid bits.
