Seminar on Women's History

On 11th June, 2019,  I had a seminar on the sources for the study of Women's history. I met many students who are pursuing their Ph. D and listened to them talk about their research. It was really interesting to meet Ann a seventy two year old who is pursuing her research on the British missionaries in Ghana and another gentleman who is seventy five and doing his research on Public health and disease in 19th cen Britain. They told me that they were now totally free, retired and could pursue their research. What I found was that our students are very young when they pursue Ph. D and this is a continuation of their degree after MA or M. Phil. Unlike this students at Berkbeck look very mature for they finish their studies go for a regular job and then come back to do a Ph. D if it interests them. In fact many of the students who were doing Ph. D in history at Birkbeck, University of London, were doing this only part time and were wor

king at regular jobs during the day time. A small party followed this.
